"But see, the difference is that you enjoyed it. It wasn't something you just did on principle, right? You can take in any kind of animal, you can take in people who need the roof over their heads. But you chose to adopt your dogs," Sookie points out, smiling as she reaches one hand around to cradle Will's cheek. "I know how it feels, though. I had a cat at home and she was the most even-minded thing. Maybe you could get a dog here. Some nice little thing who keeps you company through the night."

She tilts her head, expression teasing. "I'd offer, but I'm not sure I can hold myself to being very vanilla."
